Vet Con Chicken Rice

And yes, I know how the name sounds like. Like some con job for your pet or something. LOL. This was different. I went there after hanging around at Sim Lim Square with Bertrand and his family yesterday. They headed to this place for chicken rice, and judging from their ever-flowing amount of customers, it’s no doubt that their food must be one of the best ones. And I can’t believe I ended up as one of them.

Just behind Raffles Hotel, this “restaurant” is located along Purvis Street, where many restaurants lie along it. Entering the street itself is rather sumptuous as you could smell a variety of food as you stroll and take your pick. That’s a hungry odour indeed. The restaurant itself has a furnishing of old. To go along with the feel, old wooden chairs and tables are used. Those chairs and tables are ancient enough to be as old as your grandparents. But then again, its definitely a comfortable one.

And I have not even introduced the food. Well, it’s just Chicken Rice. And you will go – “What? Chicken Rice again?” That’s what I thought. Well, I was proven wrong because the rice was so fragrant and the chicken is like lean meat, smooth and tasty. Best of all? The rice and the chicken aren’t as oily as hawker center ones. And along with a pork chop dish and a plate of mixed vegetables, this meal was as good as complete.

The pork chop was soft and good, accompanied with slightly silky gravy. And the mixed vegetables dish is great. Fresh vegetables, prawns, lean meat. It’s as healthy as what we almost have at home, if you don’t count the chicken rice. Price range is a tad more expensive than normal hawker centers because this is an air-conditioned area as this is because they do offer steamboat in their menu. I do not know of the steamboat pricing, but from the look of it, about 70% of the restaurant customers are having steamboat there. I suppose it’s of great value and taste.

And don’t expect pretty waitress or handsome waiters to serve you. It’s like all aunties and uncles serving you. But that’s what makes food good. It’s the older people that cook it. So if you feel like having a bite on some avian meat, then you could try this restaurant. Good value with good food.
