Me?
Akashi Japanese Restaurant
LOL. This place is another amazing discovery. After a recommendation from Louis, telling the the food there is all too delicious and sumptuous, I decided to head there for a birthday lunch with my girl, and indeed, the food never disappoints me. Read on.
After getting my seat, I looked around, amazed by their traditional ambience, like that wooden feel you have when you are at some rural part of Japan. But I was surprise to see the price of the food, which caught me by surprise. Why? Because the location of the restaurant wasn’t really that appealing at Vivocity. Diagonally opposite the restaurant is Asian Kitchen, followed by small stalls like Old Chang Kee, Jollibean etc. But with the restaurants concealment from the outside, I have, today, dug out a gem that has hidden long enough in the deep rubbles and soil.
Perhaps I do judge their price for the size. I actually ordered a salmon sashimi and it cost $20, which is really quite expensive. But believe it or not, the size of every slice is definitely 2 times BIGGER and THICKER than those you have seen in Sushi Tei. And yes, it’s freaking fresh. Like those that melts in your mouth. Woo.
Their sushis were like solid stuff, although it’s expensive. With little rice and a LARGE piece of fish meat, I wonder how I did actually shove that whole piece into my mouth, only to feel more fish than rice. Fantastic freshness and tenderness. Then came our main course, which provides a range of set lunches that look so tempting and drooling. I ordered a Katsu Don set whereas my girl ordered a Salmon set. Salmon set was alright but the Katsu Don portion was really quite huge. And the Katsu is tasty and yet chewy, unlike some that taste just like rubber.
To note, their Chawanmushi is not commercialised and it’s really great. The difference to other chawanmushi you find in other restaurants is that your usuals inside it are chicken/pork meat, mushrooms, egg (duh.) and definitely, crabstick/alaskan crab meat. This one’s different. This one has a prawn in it. A different feel, a different taste, and yes, a different mentality and perspective to the dish, which was a side dish worthwhile.
Overall I would say go for it, because it’s quite a peaceful restaurant that reminds me of Haru Dining, but definitely cheaper than them, but definitely more expensive than Sushi Tei. And it’s worth it because their serving really looks American. LOL. Oh ya, please have some budget before you get in.

How did it go?
Ok, 23 wasn’t really a big deal for me. All I could ever know is the amount of wishes I have and a simple lunch and dinner with my girl and my family members respectively. Don’t ask how great or happening my birthday is because it’s just like that and it’s the way it is. Lol.
The name list will be updated soon but not now because I have belated celebrations coming up and I dunno who will be up to what really. But nonetheless, thanks for the wishes for those you-know-that-you-wished people out there. =). This is a fact – I actually forgotten if a particular person wished me or not, so if any one of you happen to read my blog and found out that the list doesn’t consist of your name, that is because it slipped off my mind, or my handphone doesn’t have you as my contact. I apologise really.
Anyway, being 23 ain’t a big thing after all, it came down as a very very normal day for me. Like another day to wake up and brush my teeth. Like another night to use the computer and maintain that sitting posture of blogging. But then, at least I feel that this birthday is just a birthday that I could celebrate with my love ones. Literally. I didn’t expect much either because I never had such surprises other than a week ago. I wonder what’s on saturday as well.
Hmmm. Overall, I would say that it’s just a bright and normal day with nothing to think about and care much really. Just… another day. =)
