Long Beach Seafood Restaurant

Filed under: Restaurant Reviews, family, food, interest, money, seafood, singapore, whatever — egomarc @ 4:43 pm

I can’t name the dishes because I was so engrossed in eating that I don’t even know what I put into my damn mouth. But seriously, whatever went deserves a thumbs up really. With a usual ambience of a chinese restaurant, the service was normal and stuff. But the food is the difference. Haha.

We had dinner at the IMM outlet, where Aunt Alison’s birthday dinner commenced. A treat from her, she actually ordered quite an amount of stupendously sumptuous dishes. I think she ordered a Grouper and the fish’s head was used for a bowl of fish head soup and the body was made into some dish with asparagus. Healthy yet tasty.

The chilli crab was great as well. Spicy enough, the gravy was all too delicious for me to handle. I even had that fried bun with the sauce. Woo!. Shiok. The other dishes include the prawns, which are alright only, and the tofu with pork floss and beansprouts. Along with a dish of spinach cooked with egg and mushrooms, these dinner was really a great one, except that the price is a little steep. But I can’t expect seafood to be cheap though. To sum it up, we had the usual dessert – almond with longan. And the almond was very bouncy and tasty.

Overall, it made me so full that I couldn’t sleep early thanks to that hefty meal in me. But I definitely love the chilli crab and the fish soup. GREAT STUFF INDEED.

2012

Filed under: Just Updates, death, earth, interest, life, mood, reflections, whatever — egomarc @ 4:16 pm

I heard that the end of the world is coming this 2012. At this point, I can choose not to believe because every year, they will come out with some weird ideas and eventually it will end up being untrue. Because, you can take a day’s leave and sit by East Coast Beach and wait for a tsunami or a breakage in the Earth’s Core to engulf you. But it will never happen. And you get back to work as if like a boring day just passed.

And my life is definitely incomplete. Well, I should be about 27 when 2012 comes. I will by then still be slacking at home, dying, and of course, jobless, poor and definitely unwanted. And this end of the world thing has to surface. But how will it take the world away from our grasp? Like with a snap of the finger and then the world splits apart? If it does, then will the world be dried up because all the water will flow into the centre of the earth, cooling off the magma and whatever is below? Then it will be relieve for the countries that are situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire. No more volcano eruptions. LOL.

But seriously, if it WERE to happen, what will your last wishes and actions be? Will you stay at home, hug your love ones? Or will you make a last call to all your friends? Will you love your girl/guy once again? Will you then start to cherish everything you had? In the end, it doesn’t even matter. Because – it’s ALL TOO LATE.

So do you want to do that now or wait till 2012, where the future lies in a blur, or do you just wait till the last few days where it is affirmed of a natural disaster that awaits the world? Well, I would sincerely stay at home, write a few letters, then give it to those that I’ve written to, and thank them for their all since the day I knew them. And then, I will go to the nearest bomb shelter and hope for the best. Will you?

Nothing to regret, nothing to fear.

MerTiger?

Filed under: Just Updates, history, humour, interest, merlion, rant, reflections, singapore, water, whatever — egomarc @ 1:26 am

Today I would like to question the fact OR fiction about the merlion. As we all know, the merlion, a so-called sea creature bonded together with the body and head of a (what the hell) lion, is a unique icon synonymous with Singapore. Located at the Merlion Park, which attracts over one million visitors a year, the Merlion is, to me, some popular species that doesn’t, and in fact, NEVER exists in history, unless we can go back in time to ask Sang Nila Utama.

With that lion head and fish body, and resting on a crest of waves, the Merlion symbolises the “Lion City”, and represents Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village. The history of our nation would really make many visitors envy, whom most of them do not even know where and anything about Singapore. We are not of a unique race or whatsoever, but we definitely are racial harmonious. Kinda like a rojak feel, we have a mix of almost anything from anywhere in the world. But generally we have a group of Chinese, Malay, Indian and of course, Eurasians.

When I studied history in secondary school (or was it primary?), we were told that the Merlion was spotted by Sang Nila Utama, our very first founder of Singapore (or was he?). As imaginations run wild, I couldn’t help but imagine Sang Nila Utama and his gang of fishermen fishing up a lion from the sea. Then the lion will eat all of them up and upon eye contact with Sang Nila Utama, he suddenly sang “Under the Sea” and then they had to have a pact with the Merlion that Sang Nila Utama have to make it this country’s “icon” or “licenced idol”. Sarcastically, that’s just how broad my mind can go.

If you have really done your research, I can deduce that we do only believe in Mermaids and nothing else. Because, at least Mermaids are like half human half fish, except that we do not know if they do fish talk. But then again, these half naked women with no vag and 2 titties hanging around just won’t do for a Singapore icon. Everyone will think that Singapore might be a port for sea prosts.

And ain’t it ironic that Singapore chose a Mer-LION for it’s nation’s icon when we had problems later in the future of berserk TIGERS massacring as many humans as it can devour? Wonder what did Sang Nila Utama really saw. If it was a tiger, then what if we had a MERTIGER? Sound like some mathematical sea creature huh.

In conclusion, I think the Merlion was an “accidental” icon. I wouldn’t say that I would disagree with the choice, but then again, Singapore has made a questionable but yet a unique “creature” that makes us so remember them that whenever tourist are reminded about Singapore, they reminisce the fact that they drank the saliva of the Merlion. LOL. The end. =)
