Oh, That Familiar Earphones.

Today, for the first time since I lost my earphones, I manage to put 2 soundwave-projecting studs into my ears and reserve the right to be anti-social for an hour, listening to some of my favourite tunes while dad drives towards the hospital to visit my grandma. Her condition is, well – bad – so to speak. Not only she forgets, now she sees dead people. And just not too long ago, she spoke about HER FUNERAL with my cousins who were visiting her. Sigh. Why Grandma, Why?

Then again, I really wished for the best for her. So my whole Sunday today was dedicated solely to assist my grandma in whatever aspects possible. After the visit, the whole of our family head down to my Grandma’s place to clear up whatever stuff that she has that she doesn’t need. You know, old people tend to have much more sentiments than we do, though we do appreciate those sentiments, but not on stuff that they do not need and still bear a some sentimental value to the elderly themselves. So we had to clear whatever we can. My grandpa could just sit there and watch. Though you can see the reluctance, but he still shrugs it off and laughs and some stuff that he doesn’t need.

So, cockroaches were basically dead and some still trying to live. So many things, it’s not even a livable condition for the cockroaches as well. Some antique stuff, many ricecookers, many tupperware containers and so much more food and beverages. I wonder what they have kept in there for so long. Probably because my grandma owns the kitchen even more, which explains the surmountable items that they have in the kitchen. It never stops growing though. But we had to act before it piles higher than Mount Fuji.

Yet again, there are many things I would like to do now. If I can, I will probably give my time for my grandma. Help to pack her house whenever I can. And today, we probably only did the kitchen. That explains how many things she has inside that small 2 room flat.

Next, I would like to clear my damn email in camp. I think by now I should have more than 200. Or maybe more. I can’t be bothered for now. Because the course is also not as easy as it seems. It’s stupid, but yet ironic, that I’m rejected by NTU but yet again I’m on a course that is held by a joint-venture thingy by the SAF and NTU. Whacked up university. Probably they are more interested in foreign talents. Never mind, I shall go and try and study for some direct honours somewhere.

Lastly, I will need to head down to Lot 1 or at least some travel agencies that can give me some offers on trips to Batam or something. Or at least a Taiwan, Japan, Bintan or Mauritius trip. The Maldives one…. I will save it for my wife – if I have one when the time comes. But at the meantime, seafood is the main concern. And Batam would probably be the place to go. Now it is the concern of the dates. Shucks. June holidays are always the pocket killers.

I need some distraction. Ohh, beautiful release.

Some photos during the clean up.

Ip Man 2

The plot – In this sequel, Ip Man (Donnie Yen) arrives in Hong Kong in 1949, only to discover that martial arts schools there operated like triads rather than more respectable institutions. His efforts to teach his Wing Chun discipline is fraught with poverty and meets resistance from Master Hung (Sammo Hung), a fellow kungfu master who runs a fish market and is being bullied by the British authorities. However, he takes solace in his bright student Leung (Chen Dao Ming) and his loving, patient wife (Lynn Hung @ Xiong Dai Lin). As conflicts brew and tempers flare, an English boxing champ (Darren Shahlavi) insults the Chinese and challenges the whole establishment to an East vs. West showdown, leaving Master Hung and Master Ip to find themselves possible allies.

Watching this movie is like sitting on the fence between Greed and Values. Like whether fighting and winning is more important than spending precious time with your family.

The direction was perfect, storyline was so good that I’m speechless. Donnie Yen – forever with that expressionless face no matter how hard he tries to smile – still does the perfect job as Ip Man, the legendary kungfu master of Bruce Lee. And that he still doesn’t change, his cold expression accompanied with his righteous and humble attitude towards things in life.

The show not only possess qualities of chinese martial arts but it inculcates certain moral values and lessons to learn in life. Watching the movie did moved me somehow. I guess it is carved to our hearts that we all should probably learn to be someone as noble but yet as gracious and humble as Ip Man in real person. Respectable yet reputable.

Overall, it’s full points for me. Give me another choice and probably I will want to catch this movie. Too good.

Wolfman

The Plot – Set in the late 1880s, this remake of the 1941 Hollywood classic begins with Lawrence Talbot meeting his estranged father following his brother’s death. While searching for his brother’s murderer, he soon discovers something horrifying – that the murderer is none other than the werewolf himself.

Tell me if I had just read a fantastic novel. Ok, I’m kidding on the reading part, but to me, watching this movie felt like I was reading the storybook from a decade ago. And it seemed all so surreal, from the morphing to the werewolf to the sad love story to the betrayal and stuff like that.

Benecio Del Toro looks really weird in this movie though I felt that his character was mysterious enough. I felt that he looks more like Dracula than a werewolf though. Anthony Hopkins still has that kind yet sly but cunning face that ever masks so well in his role personally. And the fact that Hugo Weaving is the detective makes it all the more sound like himself as Agent Smith in the Matrix.

In my perspective, the plot was fantastic, as there’s a start, a follow up, action scenes, death, love, all the way till the end. But then, everything else was a slight problem. Given the fact that the colour tone of this show is mainly black and grey, it’s not surprising to imply that a show of darkness and horror has to be of a monotonous tone. Fair enough, most mythical shows like these end up with colours of despair and dullness.

The other thing I would like to comment is the sound effects that probably was so crisp and clear that in a horror movie, I would just get ready to close my eyes and not watch. Wicked.

Overall, I felt that because it’s a remake, and that it’s an old movie, nothing much has changed from last time only to have better CGI inculcated into the movie, but nonetheless, if you have time to kill, this movie ain’t that bad if you know how to appreciate it. =)

Bodyguards and Assassins

The Plot – “Bodyguards And Assassins” concerns efforts by a group of martial artists to protect Dr. Sun Yat-sen who is popularly referred as the Father of Modern China, from an assassination attempt while visiting Hong Kong to raise funds at the beginning of the 20th century.

Deemed fit to be screened, this movie shows what people with patriotic hearts can do. In fact, the star studded cast of this movie is so wide and huge that sometimes I wonder how do you fit so many stars in to one movie. Well, this movie worked well and it surpassed my expectations for a movie that proves to be sad but true.

Well, direction was fantastic, with some action packed fight scenes courtesy of your kungfu master Donnie Yen together with a few other elites like Leon Lai, who single handedly eliminates like probably a hundred men. Apparently the whole show doesn’t really focus on Donnie Yen, whom some other viewers might feel that this movie revolves around him. But I would say that for this movie, everyone and every equal actor and actress have their fair share of air time and role time.

Best of all, their acting still never fails to impress me somehow.

In all, it touched my heart to see people fight and put their lives in the line to protect someone that they do not even know, and that by protecting Sun Yat Sen, they can change the course of the future for China. Indeed, a fantastic movie that fulfills my attempt to catch a movie in a long time. =)

The Gamer

3766769999_e1d589d054

Caught this with Colin at The Cathay on Sunday.

The plot – “Game” is a near-future action/thriller starring Gerard Butler (Kable) as the champion of an online game called “Slayers”. Mind-control technology has taken society by storm and “Slayers” allows humans to control other humans in a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. With his every move tracked by millions, Kable’s ultimate challenge is regaining his identity and launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him.

I won’t be surprised that Lionsgate will be producing this movie. Because of such “genre”, the likes of Death Race and The Condemned exist. And now this.

Gamer would be a movie of such power and mind intriguing that perhaps that point was lost almost halfway through the movie, because it kind of deviate from the title itself. But then again, the clever part of this movie is that the director knows that if he emphasize so much into just the “Game” itself, the “Game” – or in this instance the movie – will become a bore in the after stages of time.

Which is why he’s smart enough to deviate abit and into more family and ideas that come under scrutiny, leading Kable to find out more than just game his life would revolve around. That’s the good part of the plot.

Perhaps the story – if a little more impactual, and a little more longer – the movie would make much more sense if they cut the talk. But the more core importance of this movie is that it left the “gaming” mindset into something drama mama already.

Overall, if you gotta watch this, just pick a weekday. =S

And Another Week passed us by.

Apparently, work isn’t really what I’m expecting. It’s still too early to say, but I don’t believe what I’m believing myself to be right now. Just doesn’t really make sense at all. And time passes so damn quickly that we are like 3 days from September. Just when I thought I hadn’t really started my job well and proper.

Now, September is another month of ever flowing birthdays that you can’t help but wonder – aren’t we all bored of celebrating our own birthdays or others? I mean, it’s not about the money, it’s not about the company, but it’s about celebrating it for more than 20 years of your life and all we do is sing a birthday song as usual, eat cake, open present blah blah blah. Is this what we all know as birthdays?

I think whenever I see my grandma celebrating her 80-something birthday, I can’t help but wonder if she ever started to count the number of candles on the cake. Perhaps the sheer amount of candles might have just cover the whole cake and thus, making all the candles burn as one giant flame. Imagine giving you a pot of fire just above your cake and asking you to actually blow it off.

I think my grandma’s dentures will fly off first before the fire ever extinguish.

Are we all too old to celebrate? Not sian meh? Maybe birthdays are meant to be a remembering day that your time is slowly coming up. Then again, you can’t help it but to age as according and see your hair grow from short to long to short to bald and perhaps like a strand of white hair or 2 left? It’s still far to tell, but yes, it’s reality. We will still get old nonetheless.

Well, since we can picture ourselves being old, let’s try celebrating our birthdays at McDonalds. Get a happy meal, wear that dubious paper-made crown, play some kiddish games, and get free flow of nuggets and cheeseburgers. To top it off, a goodie bag full of happy meal toys. Nice. And maybe you keep it as a memorabilia for a year or two and you are ready to report to God. Is this the birthday you want to have after all these years of celebrating?

Everyone ask yourself – WHICH birthday is the most memorable for you? Pen it down on your blog post. You will be surprised as you can recall as many bullshit that happened on that day as well. Haha.

Now, time to head out for a road trip and fun shoots. =)

Turning Point

Pardon me as I cant find the poster. =(((

The plot – This movie tells the story of Laughing with a dark background as a triad member under Chou (Anthony Wong). Chou was the triad’s leader and persuaded Laughing to join the police force as an undercover for the triad to spy on police activities. While in the police academy, Laughing excelled but not well enough to be confirmed as a police officer. Instead he was recruited to be an undercover agent to spy on some illegal activities. Laughing now maintains the life as a double undercover agent, with crucial information from both sides. However, an incident disturbs the balance of the two identities and threatens to blow his cover. With both the triad and police force suspicious of his loyalty, Laughing does not know who he can trust to save him.

This is a love/hate movie that I caught and I felt the story does portray a lot of ups and downs in being a gangster. But the story itself ain’t strong enough to bring out the true character of the show though.

Admire the casting for this show as many HK drama stars all appear in this show where it’s all about the underworld and triad members of such. Strong love did play a small part here and there, humour is as usual as well (which we mostly will expect from HK dramas and perhaps their movies as well). And you know how HK triad members can really act damn well and still feel cool about it. That’s what I like. Gangster style.

Then again, the acting for all cast were good enough and that highlights the standard that they have that have churned out many many successful series in HK drama.

Overall, I liked the show for sure, but if you were to ask any movie critic, I’m sure that they will tell you that the cast is great but maybe not the story. Impact? I don’t really felt any. Hmm..

It’s so blur

Walking along the coast of a beach, I gazed above to the sky, with the light of the stars greeting me with blinks and glitter. The sand was soft, cold and smooth. As the grains of sand engulf around my foot whenever I put one foot into the ground, I look around, enjoying the lights of the resort, while walking along beside me is the girl that I would love to be with for the rest of my life, guiding her along the way on the beach.

We took a stroll before deciding to grab a drink at the nearby drink stall. My treat, as always. And we slowly headed back down to the soft luscious sand, finding a good soft spot to rest our legs. As we sat on the rustic bench by the shore, I took a sip of that chilled root beer, listening to the wind whisper into my ears, with the breeze sweeping past the million strands of hair on my head and skin. Goosebumps as I was cold. But I could see that she was freezing as well.

I pulled her close to me, embraced her in my arms while I continue to shiver. Her warmth was like having a cup of hot tea, overwhelming and comfortable. As she lay her head on my shoulders, she searches for my hand slowly. Knowing that she’s looking for it, I asked her casually to why is she looking for my hand. She told me that she wanted to hold it for warmth. I smiled, embraced her tightly, and whispered to her after a peck on the forehead..

“My hands are there for you to hold.
“My hands will always be there to catch you when you fall.
“My hands are there to help you whenever I can.
“My hands will shield you from all your troubles.

“But of course, my hands will embrace you in times of sadness. I will let you have the best in life. I will not let you suffer. I will let you remember for your lifetime that you are loved 110% everyday, every minute, every second.

Her puzzled face ain’t surprising. But she was feeling lethargic, but I knew, she didn’t had much time left to live. Now, as I bring my hand towards hers, I held her hands tight, got down on one knee, take a deep breath as I see a weakened smile on her face, said the 4 words of bliss, and waited for her reply.

She nodded her head, smiled and made that much effort to give me a tight hug. Her bodyheat is still as heart-warming, her skin still as smooth and silky. I swear that I didn’t want to let her go, never in my life. I told myself I wanted to grow old with her, and that I rather I die in her arms before she does.

As I looked up, I saw the moon, big, bright and a slight tint of red on it. It was an astronomical beauty. I let loose a little, told her that the moon is really really pretty. She spoke of none. I called her name and after which, silence filled the. I held her tight, feeling my chest close to hers, and feel no beat of the heart. My tears rolled down my cheeks, while I held her like there’s no tomorrow.

At that moment I knew that I just lost someone, someone I will call my wife.

Then I woke up and told myself that it was only a dream. Don’t be afraid Marcus, don’t be afraid.

Pic of the Day : Sometimes it’s the sky that sums it all. =|

Where Got Ghost?

wgg

NNB! JUST LAUGH AND LAUGH LOR!

The plot – Jack Neo’s 3-in-1 horror with Singaporean humour will include “Roadside Got Ghost”, “Forest Got Ghost” and “House Got Ghost”.

Ok, the humour is there, as always, and like everyone did, they laughed their hats off. I really thank the fact that my stomach hurt because it was really really funny. If you understand hokkien it’s even more better. Haha!.

Special effects have improved from the previous movies and of course, at least it doesn’t look as bad and overused as last time. But this time round, the 3 stories you have are different stories, and I would say on the 2nd story, the plot just lost it, but eventually, the fact that when they had to continue from Money No Enough 2 is kinda telling us that Jack Neo has run out of ideas. Or has he?

Anyways, apart from the family values that they instill as well, it’s just really funny to laugh it off throughout the whole show. Scary as it is, but hilarious as it is. Haha!

Public Enemies

public_enemies

Sometimes, the darker the movie, the nicer it gets. With exception to the recent Harry Potter movie.

The plot – Set in the 1930s, “Public Enemies” is a film adaptation from Bryan Burrough’s book “Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34.” The story unfolds during America’s Great Depression Era with the focus of FBI agent, Melvin Purvis trying to stop notorious American gangsters like John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd.

The film is rather underground to me though, given the fact that Johnny Depp’s charm and flawless acting has impressed me time and time again. In fact, in this film, he’s clean look on the face is suggestive to thoughts of a kind soul, but in fact, he’s like the most dangerous man that can commit many robberies. And the fact that he robbed banks as if it’s popping gum in his mouth, easy peasy.

The whole movie is filled with the aura of nostalgia, with tunes that spin you way back to the times of your ancestors maybe, but nonetheless, it’s the old feel of the world back then. Nice cinematography though, while you can sit back and watch the movie that sums up most of John Dillinger’s life of love, robbery, humour and many at times, the ability to mask himself away from the eyes of the FBI.

The bad part is that Christian’s Bale as Melvin Purvis is a pale shadow from Johnny Depp’s colourful yet dramatic life. Christian Bale’s role was rather shallow I would say, and his character didn’t proved enough to show how deep he was in his thoughts and to why he has failed like the umpteen time to capture John Dillinger.

Overall, I loved the movie. It just makes me feel that anything is possible even life is really that bad. Gives me more reason to live life to the max. But not robbing banks. =)

Star Trek

star_trek_xi_ver18

Woot.

The plot -”Star Trek” tells the incredible story of a young crew’s maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created, the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy, and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James Kirk (Chris Pine), a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. While the other, Spock (Zachary Quinto) was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before.

Tell me I didn’t see a gem in the movie. This movie has what it takes to be a big blockbuster. In fact, you need not even be a fan of Star Trek to start loving Star Trek.

The beginning starts with an intro of the young Spock and James Kirk, but still, the whole movie was fantastic in plot and cinematography. Plot that will make your heart stop. Cinematography that will leave you in awe. Get into a better movie theatre and not only you will hear laser beams zooming past you but effects that will blow your mind away.

Acting was good, at least with a dosage of humour and seriousness and things to emo about. And moments that will make you go “Oh shit, is he gonna make it?”. I would I say that the director had takes whereby it is by right supposingly like a war zone type of scene but took away all sound and he actually played like classical music. I was like….. DAMN…. THIS IS REALLY GOOD…. LOL.

I will definitely say that this is so much better than it’s TV Series, which is boring and slow. Fans, just let go of that boring shit. The movie just took this series to a whole new level of space action, bringing new technology to and advanced level, which still has an impression on me. I believe the movie has opened it’s target audience to a wider range, having fans rekindled their dreams as well as making new fans.

In all, it was great. I mean, I couldn’t ask for more. Taught me some things as well. Of course, we would all want to Live Long and Prosper – the Vulcan way. \\//

Horsemen

Do you believe in the Apocalypse?

The Plot -At home, hardened police detective Aidan Breslin (Dennis Quaid) has grown increasingly distant from his two young sons Alex (Lou Taylor Pucci) and Sean (Liam James) since the death of his wife. At work, he finds himself thrust into an investigation of perverse serial killings rooted in the Biblical prophecy of the ‘Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.’ As Breslin grapples with each new revelation in the case, he slowly uncovers a shocking connection between himself and the four suspects.

Frankly speaking, even the best of Dennis Quaid’s acting couldn’t save the whole movie from redemption. The production values were strong and they did what they had to do, showing the grisly findings throughout the bizzare homicide and murders. But still, it’s predictable as such. And the whole plot leads to the point where I do not even understand the fact about the Horsemen. Like – what kind of referencing of the Revelation is that man. I just don’t get the point.

And Zhang Ziyi, for all psycho and slutty she is, just doesn’t seem to be the right person to act for that role. Her English is still passable, but making her speak like a psycho is like asking a dumb to speak. In short – overacting.

Then again, the loss of substance to this movie just makes it feel that I’m still missing something from the whole plot. The ending was even more abrupt. Like it’s comprehensive only for a school boy and not me. I’m lost for sure.

In all, I suggest that Michael Bay did a flop for this movie. Dennis Quaid wasted his talent and time here for sure.

252 Signal of Life

movie-poster-252-signal-of-life

Caught this movie at Cineleisure after doing an on-the-spot decision with OJ. Haha.

The plot -A few weeks after a gigantic earthquake strikes Tokyo, the temperature of the Pacific Ocean suddenly increases and causes the largest typhoon ever seen in Japan to head towards Tokyo with devastating force. The tidal wave generated by the typhoon covers the coastal city area with water. The Tokyo Fire Department dispatches its elite rescue unit and their sonar picks up a signal from underwater. Beneath the ground, in one subway station, there is someone sending out a code which is known to rescuers only: 252 252 “We have survivors!” A rescue party tries to save the survivors at the risk of their own lives. In the face of death, a daring rescue operation is to be carried out.

Alright. Before I enter the cinema and get comfortable on my own seat, I was telling myself – damn, this better be worth my $6 bucks. Because I have always cast doubts over Japanese chaotic and disaster movies.

As for this movie….. the plot was predictable, with the Japanese people’s all serious but comedic sense still existent. Then again, as Japanese directors are good at, they put you in such situations where drastic measures have to be taken in order for someone to survive and stuff. At that point, it was rather tense. But all thanks to their expressions and good acting nonetheless.

The hearing impaired child’s mother was irritating to the core, as in her voice and tone is just enough for me to give her a tight slap on the face. But of course if I literally do so, OJ will get slapped instead. LOL. Then again, I was really quite emotional about the slow mo parts. But I felt that it was quite draggy for the slow mo parts. I mean – AREN’T YOU PEOPLE SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE SAVING LIVES NOW?.

The CGI wasn’t too good, although it reminded me like Day After Tomorrow. The ending was a bit abrupt, but motivational teachings were great and survival teachings were a tad too good to be true. Humour was present as well. Sometimes I just couldn’t help but laugh at their seriousness. Thanks to their expressions as well, my resistance to laugh gave way. Eventually, the whole movie boils down to having too much melodrama. Which in fact, in turned out quite Korean-ish. LOL.

The movie is indeed enjoyable to watch and kinda tense at some point, where you know that situations like these is a matter of life and death and all about making the right decisions fast. Then again, it was worth the $6, but if it were a weekend movie, I guess it would make more sense to wait for the DVD. But still, it’s not too bad a movie. Just the dragging parts. =)

Taken

taken-poster-big

Damn.

The plot – Bryan (Liam Neeson), a former secret agent living in the US, reluctantly lets his 17-year-old daughter Kim (Maggie Grace, “Lost”) go on holiday to Paris with a friend. Upon arrival in Paris, the two girls meet a seemingly nice young man who turns out to be a member of an Albanian crime syndicate, promptly kidnapping and forcing them into prostitution. Bryan must rely on his old skills in order to rescue his daughter from the slave trade.

I haven’t seen an action movie for a long time to come and this prolly will be one of the last few remaining movies that I will give a thumbs up for.

Plot wise, it was executed to perfection and yes, Liam Neeson did a wonderful job, not only portraying as loving and caring father but still has the moves for fighting and crime busting actions. Besides, he’s way too good for a role like this. Talk about wielding his lightsaber once again.

Then again, this does have a predictable beginning, a link to every scene, and an great ending, of course, with Holly Valance acting as well. Great work done on this. And literally, Liam Neeson killed every one that got in his way. I repeat, EVERYONE. Now don’t mess with the daughter or you mess with the father. And he meant from the start of the movie. Nice.

Anyways, I did enjoy the movie and was glued to the back of my seat. Apart from twerps beside me that laugh at not-so-funny-after-all scenes, I guess I pretty enjoyed my time watching this show. Great movie!.

Another one.

As time travels into the night, I drove in the car, with the wind strongly hitting my face in that convertible. Lavish as I can be, at 28, I hit the jackpot. Big company, big car, big house, perfect wife, perfect life. I thought I was dreaming. Then Jill pinched me. It was real.

So after some issues, Jill had to be at her mum’s place to stay over. Sending her there around 11, I kept her close to my body, embracing her in my arms, telling her that I will hold you till the day I die. Hugging back, she held me tight, whispering in my ear that familiar tone of love. So soothing, so comforting.

After that warm hug, our hands slide along each others’ skin, all the way to the end and as she walked away from me, my vision starts to blur. Double vision occured, and I knew I was at the brink of concussion. Then the heart failed on me.

I went down on my knees real hard, then as the eyelids came collapsing, I saw Jill running towards me after hearing that loud thump, and then she screamed for help as if her lungs were made of steel. And at my last breath, with my hands grabbing hers, I said:” I have never regretting loving you, I told myself to trust you time and time, and I was right about you being my wife all the while. Goodbye my dear, it’s time for me to go…”.

As I hear the echo-ing wails of hers, I slumped further into darkness, everything went pitch black. Colourless, odourless, senseless.

Then I HAD TO WAKE UP AT THIS POINT THINKING WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED. LOL. Sigh. Another dream. Another meaning in life? Or a warning sign? Hmmmm…

I guess I need more sleep than i thought.
